Ms. Sarah, the church gossip, self-appointed saint and arbiter of the church's morals, kept sticking her nose into other people's business. Several people were unappreciative of her activities and her rude intrusions into their personal lives, but feared her loose tongue enough to maintain their silence.

She made a mistake, however, when she lectured Edgar, a new member, about the sin of being an alcoholic after she saw his pickup truck parked in front of the town's only bar late one afternoon. She commented to Edgar, and many others, that everyone seeing his truck there would know what he was doing, that liquor is the devil's delight, and that as Christians, we should avoid even the appearance of evil. Edgar, a gentle man of few words, looked at her for a moment and just walked away. He didn't explain, argue, defend, or deny. He simply shook his head and said nothing.

Later that evening,

Edgar quietly parked his pickup truck in front of Ms. Sarah's house

............. and left it there all night
